My others travels
Germany
Crossing the German border, April 2010
We spent the Easter of 2010 in Southern Jutland in Denmark and did a detour to Germany to see the old
Danish defence line, Dannevirke. Here we are near Tønder in Denmark crossing the border to Aventoft in
Schleswig, Germany.
Roger noticed the signs.
"It's odd, isn't it," he said "with all the signs written in Danish?"
"Well, I guess it relates to the many Danes going shopping in Germany," McBear replied. "It's much cheaper
to buy beer here...".

Handewitt, Germany, April 2010
Finding our way turned out to be a rather difficult task and we had to stop many places to ask people how
to get to Dannevirke - Dannewerk in German. Here we are in Handewitt near Flensburg. McBear, while still
living in Copenhagen, had learned a bit German, so he tried the best he could do.
"Haben Sie die Dannewerken gesehen?" he asked at the local guest house. "Wir haben ... eh, gone lost
gefahren, you know, ja?
The Germans were very helpful and pointed us in the right direction.
"Sie müssen nach süd fahren..." was the reply.
"Nach south? Ach so, jawohl! Danken sie very much!"
Dannevirke, Schleswig, Germany, April 2010
Finally, we reached Dannevirke. This old defence wall predates the viking age and was extended several
times.
The last time it was in use was during the war between Denmark and Prussia in 1864 when the
Danish army had to abandon the wall and move northwards.
Chester, UK
Across Denmark, UK and Wales to Ireland, July 2001
In July 2001 we moved from Glostrup to Dublin. Jesper, a great friend of Poul, was our co-driver as we toured west,
crossed the North Sea and picked up Roger, Angus and Frances in Harwich.
The photo is taken in Chester near the border to Wales. We stayed in Chester for the night before
moving on to Holyhead in Wales. Jesper looks a bit embarrased as he carries Angus and me, and Frances is
carrying Roger!
Birthday
My 1 year birthday, Valentine's Day 2001
I got so many lovely presents as you can see. I got a china set, a big locker for my stuff, 3 wonderful cushions,
a bag for travelling and more...
Peru
Puerto Inca, Peru, June-July 2000
Even though Peru is just south of the Equator, it was freezing cold as we visited the country in their winter. Brrrr!
Here I am under the covers at a hotel in Puerto Inca on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Arequipa Airport, Peru, June-July 2000
In 2001 there was a huge earthquake in Arequipa and many people were killed. We were lucky as we visited Arequipa
the year before the earthequake.
Frances took this photo in the airport just before departure for Juliaca at the Lake Titicacca. You can
see the Andes in the horizon.
Inca Trail, Peru, July 2000
To find the lost city of Machu Picchu, we went on the Inca Trail.
The photo is taken at Dead Woman's Pass after a long day's intensive walk uphill to 4200 meters!
The air is so thin, we nearly lost poor Frances! You cannot see me as I was sitting in one of the bags...
Machu Picchu, Peru, July 2000
Machu Picchu was... incredible! Amazing and breathtaking. This is the only existing photo of me at
Machu Picchu and it's recovered from the video that was recorded.
It's a bit hard to find me, but I am
sitting on the ground with my back to the recorder. I was stunned by the archievement
and architecture of the Incas. Wouldn't mind to go back...
